Food for Fines Event at Wilson County Public Library

The Wilson County Public Library will have a Food for Fines event for the entire month of December.  Each can of food donated will allow $5 in fines to be forgiven.  Food will be donated to the Hope State in Wilson.  Donations in excess of fines owed or from patrons with fines are also welcomed.

“We not only want to feed people with this event, we want our customers to start the New Year with a clean slate so you can borrow more books and movies to enjoy during the cold winter months”, Amanda Gardner, Assistant Director and Head of Adult Services, said in a news release. “You can thank our wonderful library staff for thinking of this, and our Library Board of Trustees for wholeheartedly approving the idea”.

Food donations will be boxed and delivered to Hope Station, a ministry begun by Wilson faith Leaders in 1987 that provides food for the hungry, shelter for homeless men and financial assistance for families in crisis.

Library staffers call the food for fines exchange a “win-win” and say food donations from contributors without active library fines are also well.

For more information, visit the Library at 249 Nash Street, North or call 252/237-5355.
