Youth Programs

  • Preschool Storytime takes place Tuesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Wednesdays, October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 at 10:00 am. Ages 3 and up and no registration is required.

  • Join us for Lapsit Storytime on Tuesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Wednesdays, October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 at 9:30 am. Ages 0-2 and no registration is required.

  • Saturday Family Storytime is on Saturdays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 3:00 pm. No registration required.

  • Join us for a Bilingual Spanish/English family Storytime at the Main Library on Tuesday, October 29th at 4:00 pm. The Library will continue this bilingual program the last Tuesday of each month. No registration required.

Youth STEAM Programs

  • STEAM programs take place in Youth Services on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm. October 1: Flying Monsters, ages 5 and up, no registration required; October 8: Ghost Slime, ages 5 and up, no registration required; October 15: LED Jack O’Lanterns, ages 5 and up, registration required. The recurring monthly LEGO Club takes place on October 22nd. All LEGOs are provided. Ages 5 and up, no registration required. October 29th: DIY Halloween candy, ages 5 and up, no registration required.

Young Adult Programs

  • Teens ages 13-18 are invited to an Upside Down Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 15th at 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Main Library Assembly Room. Dress to impress in your best 1980’s or Stranger Things outfit for a chance to win our costume contest. No registration required.

Adult Programs

  • The Let’s Talk About It series meets every two weeks August 29th thru October 24th. Open to all ages/ contact the library for the reading list or to reserve copies of the books. The series continues with a discussion of Blood Done Sign My Name by Timothy B. tyson, led by scholar Jane K. Andrews. Part 5: Thursday, October 24, at 6:30 pm. Dr. Jim Clark will lead us in a discussion of Plant Life by Pamela Duncan. This project is made possible by funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council, statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endownment for the Humanities.

  • Back by popular demand, join us for a Paper Wreath Craft Program on Monday, October 7 at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm in the Main Library Assembly Room. Open to ages 16 and up. Registration is required at 252-237-5355.

  • A new monthly program series, Local Author Nights, will launch on Monday, October 21 at 7:00 pm. Featured authors are David S. Hager, author of the Hollywood Noir series featuring 1954: The Faceless Starlet case, and Ronald Keith Taylor, author of the Day Buttercup Played Hooky from the circus. Authors will sell and sign books at the event.

  • The first Adult Special Needs Storytime will take place on Tuesday, October 22 at 10:30 am in the Main Library Assembly Room. Join us for a lively Storytime and craft designed specifically for special needs adults. Registration is required at 252-237-5355.

  • Are you new to Medicare? Do you have questions about your current policy. On Tuesday, October 29 at 7:00 pm, speakers from the Wilson County Senior Health Insurance information program will provide information and answer your questions. No registration is required.

  • Join us for How to Start a Business from Joblessness to Business ownership on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Main Library Assembly Room. Learn the basics of starting a business in this seminar, including key strategies for start-up, financing, and marketing; important information about legal issues, licensing, zoning, operations, and more. Technology Classes

  • A four-part Microsoft Word Series takes place on Wednesdays from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm. Please register for each class. October 2: Word Basics; October 9: Formatting Documents; October 16: Editing Tools; October 23: Tables, Images and Graphics.

  • Need help figuring out your tablet, smartphone or eReader? Drop in to Device Advice on Wednesday, October 30, 2:00 -4:00 pm, for 1:1 assistance for Library Staff. This event takes place in the Main Library Assembly Room. Registration is requested.

Local History and Genealogy Programs

  • Tammy Medlin will present Make Do, Do Without: Couponing During Wordl War II, on Thursday, October 10 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Main Library Conference Room. Travel in time to the 1940s and discover how rationing affected life on the home front during World Ward II. learn about the use of coupons and how the government made sure everyone received their fair share of rations.

  • All are invited to the Wilson County Genealogical Society meeting on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 pm in the Main Library Assembly Room. Traci Thompson, Local History and Generlogy Librarian at Braswell Memorial Library and Brenda Dorsett, Wilson County Genealogical Society President will present a Case Study of Proving Ancestors Using DNA. Learn how testing of Y-DNA and autosomal DNA can aid genealogy research. Specific examples from the Gardner, Godwin, and Eatmon families will be referenced. No registration required.

Black Creek

  • The Black Creek Branch is located at 103 Central Avenue in Black Creek. For more information, call 252-237-5355. Ages 5 -12 are invited to Storytime on Thursdays, October 3 and 17 at 4:00 pm. No registration is required. Teens ages 13-18 are invited to build Snap Circuits on Thursday, October 10 at 4:00 pm. Registration is required.   • The East Branch is located at 6000-C Ward Boulevard in Wilson. For more information, call 252-237-2627. Storytime is on Wednesdays, October 9 and 23 at 4:00 pm. No registration is required.

  • The Elm city Branch is located at 114 North Railroad Street in Elm City. For more information call 252-237-4269. Preschool Storytime for ages 1-5 takes place on October 15 and 29 at 10:00 am. No registration required. Ages 4 and up are invited to LEGO Club on Thursday, October 10 at 3:00 pm. No registration required. Ages 5 and up are invited to a fun STEAM program on Thursday, October 24 at 4:00 pm. No registration required.

  • The Lucama Branch is located at 103 East Spring Street in Lucama. For more information, call 252-239-0046. Family Storytime, for families with elementary and children, takes place on Tuesdays, October 1 and 15 at 4:00 pm. No registration required. Lapsit Storytime, for ages 0-5 is on Wednesdays, October 2 and 16 at 10:30 am. No registration required. Join us for Teen Time on Thursdays, October 3 and 17 at 4:00 pm. No registration required. Family Movie Time returns on Friday, October 11 at 4:00 pm. All ages are welcome, no registration required. Enjoy pumpkin decorating, games, treats and more at our Fun filled Fall Friday on October 25 at 4:00 pm. All ages are welcome, no registration required.

  • The Stantonsburg Branch is located at 114 South Main Street in Stantonsburg. For more information, call 252-238-3758. Join us for Book Chat on Thursday, October 3, 3:00 pm thru 4:00 pm.

  • The Bookmobile visits the following locations each month. For more information, call 252-237-5355. Tuesdays, October 8 and 30: Saratoga 3:30 to 5:00 pm; Wednesdays, October 9 and 31: Rock Ridge 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Sims 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm.

United Way of Wilson

Wilson County Government supports United Way of Wilson. Thanks to Nancy Sallenger, Director, Wilson Crisis Center, for sharing all the ways United Way helps our citizens and families. Nancy helped us to kick off the campaign with our United Way Champions on Thursday, September 12, 2019.
